Bergman on Global Warming
“Bergman is one of 50 people who just returned from Al Gore’s global climate change training program, and is among the first on the Cape to join this movement to educate Americans about global warming and stir them to action through the former vice president’s Climate Project. He was nominated to participate by Congressman Bill Delahunt.”

Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., is peddling his book on global warming and the environment, “This Moment on Earth.” And hybrid cars now have preferred parking at Logan International Airport. What’s going on?
“Two words: Al Gore,” said Keith Bergman, former Provincetown town manager.
Mr. Bergman was trained by Mr. Gore to give a slide show based on the former vice president’s Academy Award-winning documentary on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Mr. Bergman now shocks local audiences with slides that show part of the Cape being swallowed by rising seas by the end of the century.
Mr. Bergman was in Nashville with his family last March when he heard Mr. Gore was giving a speech on climate change. Mr. Bergman called it an “epiphany.”

Bergman on gay marriage
On Tuesday Couture, Peake and Bergman all drew a heavy line between the Selectmen’s active support of gay marriage, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishop’s active opposition to gay marriage and the current deal.

Keith Bergman, Provincetown town manager, said his staff was busy yesterday photocopying the 154 applications filled out by all same-sex couples Monday, and the smaller number of licenses issued.
But Bergman warned that Romney was too late if he hoped to use the documents to stop out-of-staters from marrying here.
“I know of at least one couple that went before Orleans District Court for a waiver yesterday, received it, and got married,” Bergman said. “They said `I do,’ and they’re from Vermont.” – Boston Globe, May 19, 2004
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney also opposes gay marriages. He’s invoked a 1913 law barring out-of-state couples from marrying in Massachusetts if their home states won’t recognize the union. The law was originally intended to prevent interracial marriages. But town clerks in Provincetown, a gay-friendly beach resort on Cape Cod, and in at least three other cities said they would defy the law.
In Provincetown, celebrations were under way early this morning. Businesses there and elsewhere in the state have reported that same-sex marriages have economic benefits.
